英语知识一起学8：都知道吸烟有害健康，但为何有人依旧吸烟？

　　【分析】it’s no wonder that…这个结构中that引导主语从句，it为形式主语，真正的主语是that后从句的内容。从句中的主干是“smoking has banned, and those have to inhale.”从句的前半句in many countries与in public places是做状语，表明吸烟的范围是很多国家，吸烟的场地是公共环境，前半句使用现在完成时进行叙述阐明吸烟已经禁止。后半句中who choose to do it修饰主语those进而表明身份，此处可以理解为“主张禁烟的人”，on the pavement outside做后半句的地点状语进行补充。

　　第二句可以看到有两处破折号，之间的内容是介词despite引导的成分，可将其看作插入语单独翻译，故原句应为：So why are these people still doing it?

　　【分析】本句的主干是由两个简单句并列得到的，可以记为 A1 and A2.

　　其中A1是It's obvious something needs to be done。这里省略了that的主语从句，主句是it’s obvious(这个是显然的)，从句是something needs to be done(一些事情需要被做)。it虽然作形式主语，在翻译时可以进行一个转换：人们可以采取一些行动，这个是显而易见的。

　　A2是recently the UK government pledged to end smoking in England by 2030 as part of a range of measures to tackle the causes of preventable ill health。主干可以进行提炼：the UK government pledged to end smoking（英国政府承诺戒烟行动），in England by 2030解释了时间和地点，as作为伴随状语补充说明as part of a range of measures to tackle the causes of preventable ill health（作为众多措施的一部分，可以解决可以预防的疾病）。
